The Winter 2013-14 issue of the national SAR magazine contained the following article about nearby Pt. Pleasant, W.Va., and its pre-revolutionary battle. Not long after this battle the Ft. Gower Resolves were written in what is now Athens County, Ohio, at the convergence of Hocking and Ohio rivers. Some believe these resolves to be a precursor of the Declaration of Independence.
