NEWSLETTER FOR EWINGS CHAPTER SAR

Ewings Chapter SAR has been awarded the OHSSAR DISTINGUISHED CHAPTER AWARD for the 2008-2009 year. One of 6 chapters in Ohio to be so awarded based upon 11 criteria. Congratulations to Ewings Chapter and especially to President James Mason Smith and Diana! There is a photo of this award on the site.

Also, Samantha Patterson, sponsored by Ewings Chapter, won the OHSSAR State Knight Essay Contest.

To those 7 local Compatriots who missed the picnic at Alan Goldsberrys’, you missed the presentation of the Meritorious Service Medal to Past Present James Smith along with a Past President’s Pin,the Martha Washington Medal to Diana Smith and the Bronze Good Citizenship Medal  to Niva Kempton. A total of 28 members and wives attended a most delightful picnic.

The Fort Laurens Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 25, beginning at 11:00 A.M. Take Interstate 77 Noth to Bolivar, OH.

The first official meeting of Ewings SAR is scheduled for Thursday, September 24 at our headuarters, Chester Court House, Chester, OH.

The State Board of Management meeting is scheduled for Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3 beginning at 10:00AM at Hocking College Inn, Nelsonville, OH. Ewings chapter may be asked to provide some assistance. And, it would be prudent (“exercising good judgement and common sense”) if more than 1 (one) member of Ewings Chapter were to appear at this meeting. Lunch will be provided for a fee.

The Battle of Point Pleasant Memorial Service will take place on Sunday, October 4, beginning at 1:00 PM. It is hoped that more than two Ewings members will take part in this service. It is an impressive service with 30+ SAR chapters present, many from out-of-state. Well worth your time and effort.

Would like to see Ewings Chapter SAR represented in the Veterans/Armistice Day parade on Wednesday, November 11. At least three members with flags. They (the public) don’t know who you are if you ain’t out there from time to time.

Compatriot James Mason Smith and Diana are due the Ewings chapter’s heartfelt thanks and appreciation for holding the chapter together for 3 long years. Above and beyond the call!

Please send to me your E-Mail address so that we can begin to accumulate these for special occaisions.

Would you be able to please contribute some ideas on Fund Raising for Ewings Chapter? For several years Ebenezer Zane Chapter rented a hot dog cart and spent Saturdays in a large mall up there selling hot dogs. They made excellent money. The chapter needs some ideas like this.
